Pastel Society "Renaissance in Pastel"
My painting, "Homet's Ferry" is included in the Ninth
Annual National Exhibition at The Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich,
CT. This is a small scene I painted along the Susquehanna River
near Wyalusing on one of those perfect, delicately colored spring
afternoons. The museum is open Tuesday through Friday 9am-4pm
and Saturday and Sunday 1pm-4pm from through February 9, 2003.
Louisa Melrose Gallery "Too Soon For Spring?"
I am happy to be invited to show seven of my botanical and flower
watercolors at this group floral show in Frenchtown, New Jersey.
This exhibit will run during February and March with the opening
on February 8 from 4-7pm. The Louisa Melrose Gallery (908-996-1470)
is absolutely full of original jewelry, glass, sculpture, furniture,
ceramic and fabric art as well as paintings in all styles. Frenchtown
is a delightful little town on the banks of the Delaware River.
Lovely views, walking and biking along the canal and great shopping
to say nothing of the Bistro Greco, an Italian deli two doors
down from the gallery.

Artist-in-Residence at Salt Spring State Park
I am Artist-in-Residence at Salt
Spring State Park. This yearlong residency will culminate
in an exhibition of paintings at the Wheaton House in the Park
in August/ September of 2004. (details later). Most of the works
that I am in the process of creating are plein air pastel paintings
done on location in the park. Some are studio watercolors done
over the winter using my recollections, sketches, impressions
and photos. There will be several opportunities during the year
for painting with me and /or watching me demonstrate a whole painting.
I look forward to hosting a "Paint Out" in 2004-other
painters will be invited to come and paint the park on a specific
day. Of course Salt Spring State Park is always available to artists
and the public. If you see me sketching or painting there, please
say hello.
The paintings seen in this gallery
will be available for purchase during the Exhibition in late summer
2004 at the Wheaton House in the Park. But you may enjoy watching
the progression here. I will be posting new ones from time to
time.
First Annual New York Central Park Paint Out
September 12-14 I took part in this special event: a collaborative
effort of painters from several plein air painting groups. The
Paint Out was formed to bring to light some of the top artists
painting on location on the East Coast and Midwest. It was my
first chance to put some skyscrapers in the background! I loved
looking over the shoulders of the other painters to see how they
were each interpreting the same subject. It seemed that the public,
too, enjoyed this aspect of the paint out.
