Botanical illustration
Plants are not motionless subjects. They turn toward the light,
perk up, drop leaves, change color, disperse pollen, wilt and
die. I observe, measure, and paint quickly to capture the beauty
and gesture of each plant.
In the past, botanical art has been useful to botanists, physicians,
horticulturists and plant collectors. Contemporary botanical
art is much in demand by collectors..
I work primarily in the traditional medium of watercolor and
most any family, genus or species may show up on my page-wildflowers,
garden shrubs or tropical trees. I am a member of the Philadelphia
Society of Botanical Illustrators and occasionally exhibit with
them. Botanicals are always included in my shows here at the
studio.
Horticultural illustration
My watercolors have been used by Horticulture, Woman's Day,
Garden Style and The Gardener magazines to illustrate articles
on garden design and techniques (list
of publications). Passionate plant collecting, gardening
and garden-visiting enable me to portray plants gracefully,
with accurate color and realistic growth habit. I work free
lance by contract. Please contact me to discuss your project.
