Pink Rambler
pastel
10 x 10in. image size

Every June "Lillian Gibson" is one of the first roses to put on a display in my garden. She covers herself in soft pink bloom, sweetly scented and ushers in the progression of bloom in the rose garden. I am not sure who she was named after, but often rose breeders will name a rose for a significant lady in their lives. Whoever she was, we thank Professor Niels Ebbsen Hansen for creating this rose in 1938 at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.

It was my sweet pleasure to stand out in a dewy morning and work at my easel to capture at least some of her garden presence.
