Summer Rain
pastel
16 x 12 in. image size

Pennsylvania en Plein Air Society was invited by Hill Country Artists to attend their annual potluck picnic/paintout. The morning was a drizzler...all too typical this summer in the northeast...my mood matched the gloomy weather. I sat down amongst the industrious and intrepid artists to do a few sketches of Rita's dog and picturesque dog house. After lunch at the well-laden picnic table, I put my soggy sketchbook away and set up the easel complete with large tree and umbrella. Surprise! I got a sweet little painting of a simple scene with daylilies before the rain started in seriously and sent us all packing.

I like the distance and wet feeling of it .

I worked on tan Richeson pastel board. It has a rather pebbly texture and I like the finished quality it gives.
